Schools around China continue to be hotspots for outbreaks of the H1N1 flu virus. But some schools may have stopped reporting on it.

In Henan Province, a 19-year-old student from Anyang Normal University was suspected of contracting H1N1. She passed away last month, but a fellow student says the school has not released any details.

[Student, Anyang Normal University]:
If something happens all the information is blocked. We dont know any of this. They surely wont tell us about things like this. The situation is serious at schools, with quarantines and things, but Im not clear about the details.

In Hunan Province, a teacher from Central South University says his school has been ordered to stop testing people for H1N1.

[Mr Zhen, Teacher at Zhongnan University]:
The country has now confirmed that if you have the flu or have a fever, there wont be any tests done. The country wont diagnose whether you have H1N1—but students with fever are still being quarantined.

Chinas Ministry of Health says so far 200 people have died from H1N1 across the country.

In 2003, Chinese officials suppressed news about the SARS outbreak. That may be why many Chinese—including doctors—say that official statistics on H1N1 lack credibility.
