H2 Power

Sarah Hodgson -Director/Storyboarder
Jeff Sergent -Animator/Voice talent
Danica Tea -Videographer
Year: 2004

With amusing moments inspired by South Park animation approaches, this student-made documentary examines the controversial topic of hydrogen fueled cars. The students interview various experts in the controversy and develop their final thesis. Their group explains it this way: "Join our friend Iggy as he seeks to uncover the truth about hydrogen cars! Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas. It is believed to contribute to global warming, which is one of the reasons why we would like to move away from using fossil fuels to power cars. Hydrogen can be obtained from either natural gas (conventional fuels) or water by electrolysis. Currently, most hydrogen is obtained from natural gas. This negates the fact that hydrogen is a clean fuel because carbon dioxide is still a byproduct. However, with current technology, electrolysis of water to obtain hydrogen is not clean either because much electricity is needed; electricity that is obtained by burning fossil fuels."

Reasons for Hydrogen fuel:
1. Burns more efficiently than conventional fuels
2. The only byproduct is water so there will be no polluting emissions
3. It will eliminate our reliance on foreign oil

Problems with Hydrogen fuel:
1. Too expensive for commercial use
2. Technology is not up to par
3. There is no infrastructure for refueling hydrogen cars
4. More money is needed to develop hydrogen technology and infrastructure

Experts Interviewed in the film include: Dr. Etim Ubong, Kettering University and Ping Liu, Michigan State University.

This film was created as part of a senior thesis research project in a course at Michigan State University. Learn more here: http://www.msu.edu/course/lbs/492/luckie

  • Dont believe hydrogen works? Watch my video.

  • the great invention of the 21st century hydrogen become the fuel of future. Now they can control the power of hydrogen and oxigen and control the flow of plasma.

  • You can't make errors while typing? Do you always see perfect typing on youtube? I didn't know this is english literature class.

  • @heartlessvietboy

crated? balognie? Did you finish primary school?

  • Aren't there different levels of Hydrogen? The stronger and the weaker? Then aren't there different levels of water? The no longer natural and the natural back before the industrial revolution.

  • First of all, water isnt even H2O. Second, "energy can not be crated nor destroyed" is balognie.

  • Are you guys HHO fans? Is Hydrogen the fuel of the future or is it an on board electric generator?

  • It is called "The Entertainer" by Scott Joplin.

  • HHO generators are easy enough to build, yet they can be purchased on ebay. If everyone waited on big industry to develop the new technologies that the back yard inventors are developing with existing technology our great grandchildren will be in their 90's before any of it would ever be used. To a degree we are in charge of our own destiny. So for those waiting for everyone else to share their spoils don't hold your breath. Map your own path, anything is possible

  • Appropriate music from "The Sting". Hydrogen is a scheme by the oil companies to sell us on another profitable fuel. The oil companies have the cheapest source, and are supporting members of most hydrogen promotional groups.
