This is Part 1 of a documentary that I made about my father, swamp pop musician Rod Bernard, back in 1986 when I was 19 years old. In retrospect, it's a bit cheesy (I could not get Dad to stop using his professional radio & TV announcer's voice), but-- hope you enjoy it!

Part 2 can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLynv5pRY08

If you want more info about swamp pop, check out my book "Swamp Pop: Cajun and Creole Rhythm and Blues," which you can purchase via Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com, etc.

  • Man, oh man, does this ever take me back...I remember Jim Olivier's and Rod Bernard's so well from my Lafayette childhood listening to radio and watching TV 10, and this music as well. Thanks for making this and spreading the word.

  • Any relations with Dudley Bernard, "You've Got To Walk" Mela'dee M-7, New Orleans 1953 ?
