Sensei Simon Miller from the Oakville Chimo Ryu Jiu Jitsu club with his daughter Libby Miller showing how to tie a belt on a Gi.

Chimo Ryu is part of the Canadian Jiu Jitsu Council founded by Shihan Ron Forrester (Canadian Black Belt Hall of Fame). The Chief Instructor is Sensei Dan Poirier. Classes are in the Oakville YMCA and are run on Tuesday nights, Thursday nights and on Saturdays.

Tying a belt is a requirement for a Yellow Belt grading at Chimo Ryu. Most martial arts end up tying their belt this way or in a similar manner. While not the only way, this is an easy method that works well and kids pick up quickly.

Many people tie from the top down, which works too. I prefer to go from the bottom up. The resulting knot should be the same - looks like a fortune cookie. I've also been told this is a girl guide knot.
