  • thanks for sharing, hope they leave it up for others, well it is bbc and it has already been payed for by the public.

  • @bryngOneOn

well it's been up nearly 3 years now, and hasn't been deleted.

  • Even by the end of episode 2, I still didnt know what to make of this. Ive never heard of or read the books, and came across the series by accident and thought the synopsis sounded interesting. But wow its weird as a newbie! I didnt even like it until the end of ep 4 but kept watching anyway as for some reason I couldnt not find out what else would happen. I really enjoyed it in the end, although Im certain most of it went over my head. Ill watch it again and maybe get the books. Thanks so much!

I think I may read them properly. I read Titus Groan, and Gormanghast. But when I say I read it, I only read the bits I liked. I skimmed quite a bit. It's not that I thought bits of it were shit or anything, or that I couldn't understand it. It's just that I have a very short attention span when it comes to reading, and if I think that it's not flowing as a story, I just skip. I think the books are very well written. I'm just not a good reader.

that's ok, I didn't star in it, or write it. I wouldn't expect stupid people to like something like this anyway. have a nice day now. bye bye.

  • Thanks Rowan for your time and efforts in posting this magnificent BBC production.

As an American who first read the books in the early 70's then the 80s,90s and 00 I can say Peake is the total master of descriptive writing. He paints pictures in your mind with words.

  • Thank you so very, very much for uploading this! I had very vague memories of watching it as a child with my family when it first came out, it was great to watch it again now and actually understand what was going on!

  • The BBC did a wonderful job of Gormenghast with an amazing cast. Thanks for the upload, Rowan07001484.

Perhaps the film will tempt some people to read (or re-read) the Gormenghast books. They're well worth it.

  • @cogforu In case you didn't know, Mervyn Peake succumbed to dementia during the writing of Titus Alone and died shortly after. The work that was published was actually an unfinished manuscript, who knows what the author originally intended and how much of what was printed was even meant for public eyes.

  • This is awesome! Thank you so much, Rowan! I'm from Latvia, and yeah i had never heard anything about this, but i really enjoyed watching it. Love it!

  • When I first saw this, back when, I had no idea how grand it would be. The whole atmosphere of Gormenghast and how its people live in and interact with the odd comings and goings of their perceived as normal day to day life is intriguing. It is a fantasy like no other, fore it needs not dragons or sorcerers just a kitchen boys actions to remind all that the traditions, like all things in life, are nothing without purpose. Many thx Rowan for uploading this! Time to get the books! HUZZAH! ^^
