Darrell Humphrey works at the Lyle A. Torrant Center in Jackson. A veteran teacher, Humphreys students are between the ages of 15 and 19. They all have severe, multiple impairments, including seizure disorders, cerebral palsy, hearing or visual impairments.

But, they also have a teacher who has dedicated his professional career 38 years and counting to helping them reach their fullest potential. Over the past four years, that work has taken a creative turn with a multicultural flair. to read more: http://www.mea.org/awards/humanrights.html

  • Darrell congratulation. I taught for 33 years in the Special Education community and on my final year. I received the Learning Disabilties Teacher of the Year for the State Of Indiana. I am having a great caree and a fun time seeing old students I taught 30 years ago. I am now a storyteller and award winning recording artist.
