Be Different: Adventures of a Free-Range Aspergian by John Robison - Introduction

John Elder Robison, author of Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Asperger's, has a new book, Be Different, out this March. John reads the introduction of Be DIfferent in a movie which I've illustrated with photos from his life. He discusses how Asperger's allowed him to accomplish amazing things in his life, including designing the effects for the band KISS and starting a fine european automobile business in Springfield, MA.

My Autism Talk TV cohost, Jack Robison (Cubby) appears in many photos as he is the son of John. I appear in one of the photos. See if you can spot us!

I have been diagnosed as a high-functioning Aspergian and I am a proud supporter of John Elder Robison's books. I have read both Look Me in the Eye and be different in four days. I have never been so proud to be an Aspergian. I look forward to, if in progress, his next book. Please, show the world the absolute full extent of the Aspergian mind and our incredible abilities. These abilities that seem like super powers to nypicals, yet that are a standard of our minds.

They say i have Aspergers as well. i relate to how people keep saying i'm smart, but don't understand why i act the way i do. I never want to learn the way people teach me, i rather be alone and teach myself. i have have lots of confidence of my future, hopefully doing things my own way but all my thoughts and ideas are shattered by the reality how how the rest of the world all seems to do things the same, i look at the world and say, how do they do it. I feel like the last of my species, Dylan

I too have read "Look Me in the Eye" and thought it was brilliant. I will be buying this book as soon as it's available!

My son is eight and profoundly autistic. I understand him and realize that his teachers, doctors, therapists don't always understand his behaviors. Thank you for writing and sharing this book. My son will probably need help all his life. I have been the most help to him from communicating with Aspergians and Adults on the Autism Spectrum and reading books and papers they've written on coping.

I've read Look Me in the Eye, and loved it, now can't wait to read your new book! I have a 13 year old with HFA on the aspergers side of the spectrum. I know he is brilliant, and am looking forward to seeing his achievements as he grows. Yes, he has a harder time than most other kids, but everyone who knows him says that he will do great things!
