The project has for objective the implementation of the graphical part of a translating software that it makes possible to transform LIBRAS-Notation into a graphical 3D animation in real time where a humanoid 3D character (referenced hereafter as "Avatar") virtually simulates the Brazilian Language of Signals (LIBRAS) for deaf people. This translation is a complex process for being nonlinear and inter-discipline, enclosing the linguistic part of translation from portuguese to LIBRAS-Notation, the composition and edition of the movements, the storage and persistence of these movements, the 3D animation and the final visualization of the result animation. The final product of the project was a LIBRAS-Notation animation engine in a Virtual 3D Environment, developed using Graphical Computation algorithms, the OpenGL API for hardware access and the C++ Language. This engine could also be used in other products like kids software, visual applications, visual books for deaf people and translators of foreign languages for the respective visual language of the country. The 3D animations of the signals will be constructed in a visual editor which was also developed and use engine internally.
