'Eco-Centric', a story by reporter Tim Lee from the 2004 ABC program 'Landline' about permaculture co-originator David Holmgren, whose "pivotal role in developing permaculture has scarcely been recognised" www.holmgren.com.au
I other words, I mean not to be pessimist, but realist. Let's be frank, for every Bill Mollison, Holmgren or Lawton, there's a handful Peter Andrews out there. Nearly unheard of. That poor fellow's life, brilliant man, ruined. One of many. Quietly working on that piece of land, raising the water tables until people looked, that's so serious way to create change. Forums, exposure and instruction is great, but without action, we lose, plain and simple. Lots of love and a great harvest : )
@Snurdgerbly Please, don't misunderstand. I thoroughly struggle against conformism, I too find a lot of people who cling to the dystopia, many without realizing. For one, believing Universities, the very institutions on the frontier or running the planet amok, have any place in any would be, positive change. No different is to finally say "Enough is enough!" then go play backyard gardener and then nothing else, sure, you feel better, but it changes nothing; Panis et Circenses at play. Careful :(
@SecretsSanctuary I'm sorry you are so pessimistic. I find a lot of people cling to their dystopian vision rather than take a few positive steps toward change. It's comforting to play the victim. Go ahead and give up, if you like, the rest of us will work patiently for change. How's your garden?
Such a pity, to see this. This isn't a pseudo-science, it's not science, it's neither, it's beyond this sort of thinking. Funding from Universities and their vested interests comes at a high price. In a few years nothing will have changed, as nothing ever does, because people don't get savvy to their scheme. They aren't our friends, they don't play around. They have millions invested, does anybody think they'll let a few independent thinkers rain their parade ? They'll reduce this to a joke.
Mainstream sure pushes Permaculture, the name, but what they are showing and promoting isn't Permaculture, they play on the name. Mainstream embracing Permaculture ? No, what's happening is infiltration of (yet another) once brilliant idea.

Permaculture is now permeating the mainstream. Is the tide turning, at last? I hope so.
