James Frederick "Jimmie" Rodgers was the first and best of America's folk rock artists. But, as shown here in this extraordinarily sensitive rendition of the classic Western ballad, "Streets of Laredo," his exceptional vocal talent (with its pure 3-octave range) could grace virtually any song with almost supernal magic. One of the great tragedies of our time was the theft of this gift via his brutal 1967 assault. Still, we fans are grateful for his rich repository of unsurpassed songs.
