NYSMF Violin faculty member, Sean Neukom, composed this piece to demonstrate the power of music to change words. Performed in two parts, he uses the famous "To be or not to be" soliloquy and accompanies it with two very different musical tapestries, changing the reading and feel of the words completely.
This is gorgeous, both compositions. The first has an epic feel that is victorious and yet melancholic. It makes you feel Hamlet's anger, something that's very rarely brought out in this particular monologue. The second one brought tears to my eyes. It brought Hamlet's contemplation of death straight to the forefront and you could feel grief emanating from the words through the music. Gorgeous. Kudos for two so different and yet so perfect companion pieces for Shakespeare's great work.
