ATN's Tina Richards discusses the No Child Left Behind program with Paula Millar, a 20 veteran of teaching within impoverished neighborhoods in Rochester, NY and Fred Millar, an educational sociologist from the DC area. With the NCLB program under consideration for renewal in Congress, there are several questions about the efficacy of the program and whether it has raised or lowered standards for students nationwide.
If it is agreed that No Child Left Behind does not do what it was intended to do, then a new plan is needed. What would it be? How do we do it? I want every child to have a fair chance. Also some of these supers for these school distrcits are making big bucks, and there may be multiple supers. Eliminating waste could pay for better "talent" when it comes to teachers. It is so easy to simply say "this doesn't work", but how about so ideas to make it better. Thanks.
