This is a video answering a very random question regarding smoke alarms, the question was have smoke alarms got radioactive material inside them, the person asked does this mean they are dangerous, well you can watch the video for more info.

By the way despite me saying about how random and off topic the question is thats not to say I dont like answering these kinds of questions, because I welcome all kinds of question, if youre asking Im answering and if I dont know the answer to the question I will try and find someone who does

  • wat if i was took take out the americium and swallow it would i die?

  • @MattSL97 LOL. there's a strong possibility that you would die and if you did manage to live to tell the tale you would soon die of liver failure and/or cancer.

my recommendation is not to open a smoke alarms ionizing chamber and defiantly, defiantly do not eat any part of a smoke alarm.

thanks for your comment and sorry about the late reply.

    nice one!!!

  • Also, if i throw out the smoke detector, and the garbage truck crushes it, will the garbage men have to worry about their jacobs? i hope so. see, one of the garbage women actually molested my son in 1990 leaving bruises on his gentiles. hope these women get what they deserve when i throw away one of these ionizing chambers.

  • i think thats BULLSHIT from the smoke alarm companies that you have to change it every 10 years. i have one from 1985 that works fine. im about to throw it out but im searching "fun with americium" to see if theres anything fun i can do with it.

  • @viperfrank thumbs down for not knowing how to spell definitely. defiantly? that makes me so mad.

  • @antimatterball21 They use alpha particles in the detecters themselves and if you have taken chemistry you would know that know they are not dangerous even outside the containers.

  • Take care. Americium is really dangerous and easily falls to dust. The small chip in the ionizing-chamber is only thin-coated with gold and when u don't take care, this layer gets worn off.

Am - 241 is VERY radioactive, and even though its AmO, its still VERY radioactive!

  • correction.americium doesn't only have alpha radiation but also gamma radiation.but i don't know if they have beta radiation.YEAH FOR RADIATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • its called americam like americ-am

  • wow i did not know that!!! when i first moved in to my new house i found one in loft and i was all smashed open, i just thew it in the bin, whoops!!!!! i didn't know they had that inside them

well good job i watched this video now i know.

thanks for the info mate. great video james keep it up 5/5
