@ak74u2 The squid is changing color because he is trying to scare away his attacker, mainly the deck hand which is cutting off one of his legs to set him free. So in a sense I guess it is working. The reason he is being let go is because seconds before he was hooked another squid was caught and own limit on the Humbolt squid was reached. I assure you that although his severed limb was food for other creatures of the sea, the res of him most likely lived on till mistook a squid jig for a meal.

@islandtalker We are fishing for squid, the water was rough that day, and no other fish were showing, out of the blue the squid come in, we set up for them with those squid jigs which you see at the end of the video. Seconds before he was hooked another squid was caught and our limit on the Humbolt squid was reached. You will notice the jig at the end of the video, it has an extra diamond bar on it too, which made it that much harder to extricate from the squid before we could release him.

@islandtalker human consumption of squid usually involve squid measuring tube length only 25 to 30 cm's....any bigger and your chewing on rubber...and also squid dont breath fresh air so do you know the physics of squid outta water hmhmhm.. oh yeah 1) "SQUID JIG"
