Watch an investigative series by program participant Irene Moa'wad as she investigates the socio-political struggles of Jews living in Egypt.
This was apart of the International Center for Journalists' Virtual Newsroom project that trained 40 Egyptian journalists in investigative reporting skills through a unique hands-on/online mentoring program.
The focus was to train journalists how to produce and disseminate investigative reports through computer- assisted reporting, and by linking to one another through a virtual newsroom online platform.
People that we knew had to leave Egypt with just the clothes they stood in literally at gun point because they were Jewish. They were really successful business people. They left the whole lot behind: houses, businesses - all of it. People in Europe should know about this stuff. When they got to Britain they built the whole lot back up. At least the Egytians couldn't take away the business sense that these people had. Egypt is still a very racist, backward country.
