Emission trading scheme? Cap and trade? What do these words mean? And how does it all contribute to reduced emissions of greenhouse gases? This animation shows how the scheme works.
@johnTconover and in case you missed it -- there is absolutely NO comparison between "free markets" and markets controlled by "cap & trade". I'm so glad the US politicians listened to their constituents on this, and killed cap & trade here. But we need to keep fighting it for the sake of our children & the lives of everyone who does not yet enjoy a high standard of living.
@johnTconover see my post of a few seconds ago... this scheme is pure genius in the sense that it has fooled more than half of the representatives to the U.N. from the world's poorest nations. They don't see how this scheme is not just immoral -- it is spawned by pure evil. How is it "equitable" for poor nations to pay wealthy nations for the "right" to grow beyond their current levels of emission? Like Al Gore, you must be incapable of thinking this thru...don't feel bad, neither was my sister.
The scheme allows inefficient, bloated corporation executives to cut their operations, lay off their employees, and still put BILLIONS into their pockets. The net result of cap & trade is to destroy industry, kill national economies of those countries foolish enough to drink the Kool-Aide, and the scheme will lead directly to WWIII, as small nations seeking to grow industry would be "shut out" by the need to pay wealthy nations, and small companies would need to pay big corporate execs.
The global ETS is pure genius. It is a global free market economic model that will create profit through resource efficiency and sustainability rather than todays infinite growth model that produces wealth by attaining and consuming exponential and unsustainable supplies of finite resources. Bring on the ETS and bring on the new world order, it will bring wealth equality to the world, end resource wars, nationalism and best of all it will ensure the survival of the human species ;-)
