The crisis within the UNP deepens with Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekera walking out of the Working Committee meeting..
The Parliamentarian said the party will not be able to triumph in any election due to the dictatorial leadership. Dayasiri Jayasekera seriously criticised the party leadership and the programme at the Working Committee meeting at Siri Kotha presided by Ranil Wickramasinghe yesterday. He said he was resigning from the Working Committee. Party sources at Siri Kotha confirmed this development. The party leadership was impressed upon to nominate the candidate for the next Presidential election. Mr. Wickremasinghe had not responded to queries made from the rebel group. A tense situation prevailed at the Working Committee meeting with Mr. Wickramasinghes statement that alternative proposals were being submitted by those who were destroying the party. The rebel group which blamed the party leadership for the defeat at the Uva polls, exerted pressure on the leadership to immediately reveal to the party and the country on the millions of rupees received by the party. It announced that they would soon spell out to the nation on the alliance that was to be formed by defeated politicians and parties with Mr. Wickramasinghe, and the treacherous forces who were destroying the country.
