  • I agree with you. The old Gunbuster had some really rich detail. Diebuster tries.......

  • Notice that this thing has drills for shoulders.

    Chouginga Gurren Lagann: The Prototype.

  • @Azmodeus87 I dunno, all kinds of different stories of all different themes occur in the real world. I've always enjoyed the idea of stories of different moods and tones occurring in the same fictional reality, as it adds a sense of changing times and different people.

And I really like the way they tied the endings together. I guess it's all a matter of the idea "This is the same world as Gunbuster, but it's completely its own, individual story."

  • @theelostriots9999 I dunno. The original was part sci-fi epic, part coming-of-age story, part homage to a bunch of different animes popular in the day. Diebuster softened it´s sci-fi considerably and did away with almost all of the homages to focus more on the coming-of-age aspect and replaced the sport-styling of the 1st half (of Gunbuster) with a lot of mahou-shojou tropes (in Diebuster).

  • @Azmodeus87 I think the spirit of the original cartoon is far more realised here in the writing than in the original series. I love Gunbuster, but I find this a more satisfying series on the whole.

Baring in mind the fact that directors styles are vastly different. (Evangelion vs FLCL in terms of director produce) This is a fairly dramatic piece. It just uses the animation to get it's point across rather than a dramatic screenplay, which makes it a more artistic piece tbh.

  • @sidjtd This is just modern anime in general though isn't it. Backgrounds are far far better in general, but the actual characters, while coloured better, lack so much detail. I think it's a worth while trade off depending on the show. Better animation in action scenes is worth less detail I think. I think this is something Gainax has learnt in terms of spreading budgets. Look what happened at the end of Gunbuster and Evangelion. But maybe that's just Anno's management style, hah.

  • Try playing "No Helping It! (Extended Version)" (0:30) to this video, you'll like the results

  • I really think they shouldn´t have made this a sequel to Gunbuster. NOT because i think this is a bad sereis, mind you, i think it´s pretty good. I just think it would have faired better as a story if it were it´own thing rather than trying to mix it´s almost cartoony astethics and originall ideas with the continuity of Gunbuster.

  • ......Damn she's huge......

  • It's Chouginga Gurren Lagann's wife.

  • @Zetsumi199091 True to that! Where do you think they got the idea of the Super Inazuma Kick in the Super Robot Wars Z 2!
