Basically I love both shotguns I'm not really all about attack power.
If it shoots bullets and kills my enemies then that's all that matters to me. ( as long as I have unlimited ammo)

The m3/riot gun is a good weapon to use for crowd control or against stronger enemies.
But the hydra/tri-gun is better in terms of power and the fact that this gun is good against the chainsaw wielding zomibes

To clarify:
M3 damage 900
Hydra damage 500 (or 550)
M3 is stronger but Hydra has more tightly packed bullets, so a hydra shot to the head would do more damage than an M3 because more bullets would hit.

Actually to all you hydra lovers out there the m3 is stronger look at the stats at max upgrade it has more firepower than the hydra which has 550 at max and i have 600 at halfway upgrade....

Depends on the situation. If you can afford the infinite ammo-upgrade for the M3, I would pick that one. Also, the Jail Breaker is only available pretty late in the game...
