Kinda freestyle move for landlocked windsurfers - most of them... Sailing inside the boom, facing the wind is easy in strong winds, even on small boards 90+ litres. However, I require at least 130l to jump.
@mbfipr : worst is the b***s - make sure both legs clear, or else. Broke a few masts in my days. Or when the feet don't quite clear, and you fall head first: just make sure you hang on to the booms then. Awkward fall, but no harm done.
I was just doing a lot of sailing inside the boom, facing the wind, on my Goya (100L) this weekend in fair winds. Couldn't quite jump it though.
@gracefulangels : point taken, but sorry I don't believe in them's helmets.
Have a look at the PWA guys, or my local freestyle champ'ships: nobody does, and no damage done there. I actually find that head injuries are easy to avoid: just keep hanging to the booms, esp short boards.
I find the worst injuries of my short and longboard freestyling have been dislocated shoulders, crotch, lotsa shin injuries and bleeding, wind knocked out and twisted knees, broken noses too.
how many wannabe freestylers are going to choke themselves trying this trick?
nice vid tho :p

I can really sail in the boom, face to the wind, with no problem... I think I must proceed to the next step, then ^^
