Neil?what about a date?I would like to have drum lessons,what do mean?
-
Yes, it's "Peert." Funny, it might have been the maniacal antics of Keith Moon--ironically, one of Neil's main influences--who conveyed the stereotype that drummers, particularly rock drummers, are idiots. (It was Keith's personality, after all, combined with the physical appearance of Ginger Baker, which were combined to create Animal on "The Muppet Show.") Thankfully, we "idiots" have a true intellectual, not to mention all-around good guy to look up to, in a gentleman like Mr. "Peert" here.

@Leadtheband Peeart

What a lovely moustache
-
Yeah, I've heard Neil say Peert. One of the most mispronounced names in the music biz. Kind of like Ray Davies (pronounced Davis, not Daveez) from the Kinks.

Genius
-
@Leadtheband Its pronounced Peert, but I will always call him Pert.
-
Definately one of the greatest drummers AND one of the greatest lyricists! They read like poems and love letters.
How do you pronounce his last name? Is it Peeart or Pert?
Leadtheband 1 year ago 3
@Leadtheband, it's pronounced Peer-t -- Oakley says his name 7 seconds in.

He's so grounded and well spoken. The perfect role model for any kid. Starting drums at 13 myself and not having a father around, Neil was an influence both musically and intellectually. He's the reason I read books and never got into drugs. I feel like I'm a better person for having been a fan of Rush from such a young age. Now I'm 44 and still a Rush fan.
