  • Well I don't have a glass carboy, but all the recipes I have got from the brewers supply include instructions which say to stir the beer after pitching the yeast, or in the case of glass carboys to shake it. Perhaps they are wrong though...

  • I would not go as far as to say they are wrong, I just know that in my 5 years of brewing, I don't shake mine. Well... I might have a couple of times, but I usually don't. If you prefer to shake it, go ahead. Remember though, you don't want to oxygenate the wort, and anything that you use to stir it must be clean and sanitized. I don't see this as necessary though.

  • I think you forgot to show that you need to shake the carboy after you pitch the yeast.

  • No it is not necessary to shake any fermenter after pitching the yeast. I have never done it and the yeast works just fine. How would a brewery shake a full size fermenter? They can't.
