This is one of my favourites- hope you like it.
Lyrics:
The Lawland Lads think they are fine
But oh they're vain and idle gaudy
How much unlike the graceful mein
And manly looks o' my Highland Laddie
If I were free at will to choose
To be the wealthiest Lawland Lady
I'd tak' young Donald without trews
Wi' bonnet blue and Highland plaidie
Chorus:
Oh my bonnie bonnie Highland Laddie
Oh my bonnie bonnie Highland Laddie
When I was sick and like to die
He rowed me in his Highland plaidie
O'er Benty Hill wi' him I'll run
And leave my Lawland kin and daddy
Frae winters chill and summers sun
He'll screen me in his Highland plaidie
A painted room, a silken red
Maun please a Lawland Lord and Lady
But I can kiss and be as glad
Behind a bush in his Highland plaidie
Nae greater joy I'll e'er pretend
Than that his love prove true and steady
Like mine to him which ne'er shall end
While heaven preserves my Highland Laddie
Chorus
scottish by birth, british by law, highlander by the grace of the allmighty!

I saw the Tannahill Weavers about 30 years ago in Oregon, but Dougie was so drunk that it ruined the evening. Always like the group, though.

I love the Tannahill Weavers so much! I had their album Epona as a very young man and I actually got to see them in person. They came to Saint Louis for the Saint Andrew's festival. They signed my old, beaten up copy of Epona and it meant so much to me. I'm never star struck by any of the people most call celebrities, but that was a day I'll never forget.

I love it, was the first Scottish song that I heard, when I was six... After that, in my house sound the Tannahill Weavers 24 hours 24 and I fall in love with Scotland, I dream to visit it one day (I'm Italian) XD The picture is really beautiful, do you do it?

I've been witness to three of their performances over the years at Skippers Smokehouse in Tampa, FL. I've three of their CDs. If they ever show there again in the winter I will be wearing a great kilt of my ancestral clan in their honor!
I hope it will be a cold winter night, if or when they do; any other time it would be too warm (or hot!) to wear the great kilt.

My grandma was a Tannahill and my grandpa was a Smyly before they were married.
That's as close as I get to Scottish heritage. My people are from Kilmarnock. Do I pass? lol!
