With only $3,500 in hand, the ambitious filmmakers at From the Flames Productions created this Concept Film as a visual aid to accompany an investment package meant to gain funding for a larger feature film.
Most of the crew for the concept film had just come off the set of the independent feature film Risen which recently entered into a lucrative distribution deal. These same film professionals would have worked on the Blade of the King motion picture along with many others. Almost all were convinced to come aboard pro bono with the understanding that they would receive first job offer on a feature version if and when we achieved funding in full. With that said, we had well over 90 people working on this project. The Blade of the King concept film was shot at just over $3,500. This included the cost of food, travel expenses and some equipment rentals. We had an original score by composer Joe Basquez of Ultima Online fame and our sword master was Alan Hutton from Disney's "The Alamo". We had an all original font for titles and custom leather armor and costumes made specifically for this film. When you understand that we spent a total of 1.67% of what the cost would have been if we had paid all associated costs for just the concept film alone, you can imagine what we might have been able to accomplish once we had the full budget for the Blade of the King feature film. The Blade of the King concept film was shot over a period of about five days total at several different locations throughout Texas including Zilker Botanical Gardens, in Austin and at Savernake, a Norse themed village just south west of San Antonio.

  • Wow...for only $3,500? Not bad.

  • This trailer is pretty freakin good considering its budget....

  • so-so acting by the girl and old man in the woods. Cool locations. bad acting by the girl missing the arm. Cool battle scenes. Good acting by beowulf and the guy he is screaming at. neat music. Oh and the guy on the horse was good too. I'd watch if you got the funding.

  • Pretty good and interesting. Subject matter is right up my alley. I hope that you are able to acquire the funding that you're looking for to make the feature. The main criticism that I have of the development trailer is that a lot of the shots were poorly lit. Even if/when you want to establish a dark and forboding mood, the shots need appropriate lighting. Other than that, keep up the good work.

  • Beowolf was a hero of our people...
