"This is what happens when you 'romanticize' government." ~ perfect quote
It should be made into a t-shirt or bumber sticker; 'Detroit is what happens when you romanticize government.'

Sure the government(s) may have a role in urban decline (the FHA and VA subsidized white flight and suburban development during the great depression and after the war/the highway system too), but these guys generalize shortcomings to promote anti-government sentiments all around. Welfare, public health insurance, etc., has nothing to do with decline.

what is this nonsense....you right wingers will say any bizarre crap. you live in your own little fantasy world and will say anything to get support for your selfishness and backward views!

I love what "Government GM FORD and Chrysler" did to Detroit, and I love the dolts that let it happen. Bravo you really don't know what government is supposed to do.

I disagree with most of this video.
-
So what happens when you romanticize big business???
-
What a dumb video. All this does is reinforce the ideological hatred of government some of us already feel without connecting through (!) evidence that "big government" really did dismantle much of what used to be Detroit.
If anything, the public highways their R.V. travelled on in this piece were the biggest factor: They allowed city dwellers to migrate to wealthier suburbs long ago, leaving the core to rot.

I don't understand, did the government build the Renaissance Center? How did the government cause neighborhoods to be abandoned? I am not arguing in favor of big government...I just don't understand the connection to your arguments.
Wow, this is a great video. You guys are getting very good at this and are criminally undersubscribed.
