With the Leafs leading 5-0 in game seven of their second round series against the Blues, Wendel Clark pulls a "waster" on Curtis Joseph.

My favorite part of the entire sequence is the MLG crowd reaction: an excited buzz as they realize Clark has a chance at a hat trick, followed by momentary confusion when they see that he didn't score, followed by delirious cheers when they realize he's chosen to murder the other team's goalie instead.

Joseph's attempt to shrug it off as no big deal is actually sort of badass, or at least it would have been if Curt Giles hadn't completely ruined it by rushing over to give him a hug. That part kills me.

On a related note, this was the only actual slapshot Wendel took in his entire NHL career.

I had this play at #12 on my list of the Top 17 Wendel Clark moments of all time: http://www.downgoesbrown.com/2008/11/wendel-moment-12-see-kids-this-is-what.html

  • "And the mask saves Curtis Joseph's life". I love Harry Neale. Leaf broadcasts have been 50% worse without him. Millen sucks. He isn't a homer, he isn't funny and 70% of his comments begin with: "When I was playing..."

  • "and the mask saves Josephs life" hahhahahhaha

  • @fatso2992 Actually, Cujo outplayed Brodeur for most of 2000 & 2001 playoff series & NJ did have superior defensive team but Joseph stumbled at key moments each year. In 2000 he had rough Game 2 & gave up bad gamewinning goal to Madden in Game 5 (to be fair, it may have deflected off defenseman Yushkevich's stick). In 2001 he had another bad outing in Game 2 & one of few times he got outplayed by Brodeur was in Game 6 when Leafs had chance to clinch on homeice. Cujo was a little overrated.

  • @industrialsun It wasnt poor play against the devils. He was amazing in those series and equal to Brodeur (and this was when brodeur was in his prime). However Brodeur had a better team in front of him so they won the series

  • You're the goale that's your job Curtis...

  • Thank Clint Benidict for the mask.

  • Cujo stunk every year in playoffs for Blues except 93 when he only sucked in this Game 7. For Oilers, 1st round upsets of Stars in 97 and Avs in 98 only to be destroyed by Roy and crushed by Belfour in 2nd rounds each year. For Leafs, totally outplayed by Hasek in 99 Conf Final, poor play in key games led to losses in 2000 and 2001 2nd round series to NJ, 3 OT losses sunk the team against Canes in 02 Conf Final. For Wings, very good but unequal to brilliance of Giguere in 03 or Kiprusoff in 04.

  • @RobViper3 "He isn't a homer..." That's a problem??!! We need fewer "homers" in the broadcast booth...more like, we need NONE!

  • @pajinski1 That is exactly it. Fraser told Cujo " Don't worry ill fuck'em in the next round.

  • WHAT A SAVE!

  • who's that jerk talking to Cujo at :45? I'm no lip-reader, but he seems to be saying "I'll get them next round for ya."

  • Boom. Headshot.
