George was the first thermonuclear experiment conducted by the United States. The device was purely experimental and unsuitable as a weapon. The device imploded enriched uranium by means of a unique cylindrical implosion system, hence the name of the device, the Cylinder. The device was a disk about 8 feet across and 2 feet thick with a hollow hole in its center. At the end of the hole was a ball of beryllium oxide sphere containing cryogenic deuterium with a few percent of tritium.
The implosion generated heat and pressure in which fusion reactions can occur. The thermal radiation arrived ahead of the shock front allowing time for a small amount of fusion reaction to occur before being consumed by the expanding fireball. The fusion reaction yield was negligible to the fission reaction.
Edward Teller was largely responsible for the thermonuclear portion of the experiment. The design, however, was originally patented by Johann Von Neumann and Klaus Fuchs in 1946. The unique Cylinder fission design was developed by George Gamow.
The George experiment gave vital data needed for developing a true two-stage thermonuclear weapon. Useful date on radiation implosion was gathered which was an essential element of the Teller-Ulam hydrogen bomb design.
The shot was delayed over three hours to allow for more daylight for drone aircraft operations and to compensate for probable cloud cover. The greatest fallout was predicted to the northeast, clear of populated areas. The high yield predicted from the George shot demanded absolutely safe fallout conditions. Excellent weather conditions were a blessing for the shot schedule.
On May 9, 1951 at 9:30 local time George was fired. A tremendous 225 kilotons yield was achieved, the largest yield to date. The cloud reached an altitude of 56,000 feet. Excellent weather conditions elimated immediate downwind fallout on the atoll and no secondary fallout occurred. George created a crater 1,140 feet in diameter with a depth of 10 feet.
Yeah Man!!....Burn the Upper Atmospheres Myaan..this is cool....Death is so Beautiful for all of us....
Most of you are totally Sociopathic sick Fucks.
.."There were no uman Health risks as a result of the over 100 nuclear detonations up until 1998"
You are really rather dim if you buy that line.

@muzzmatrix Thanx I will search for it!!!
I'm interested in nuclear power... But I hate it if they kill people with atomic bombs... But if they only use it on places where nobody live's Then the explosion of A Nuclear bomb is A real Beauty!!!!

And this was just a testing bomb!!
What America gave to europe are the real bombs...
And they made them from 40 to 500 Kilotons

I FUCKING HATE AMERICA!!!!!!!
In the Netherlands we have 10 of these bombs from America!!!!
Keep your own stuff man!!!
If something goes wrong the Netherlands will be gone....
And Germany and Belgium also have de B61 nuclear bombs from America!!
But Russia want's America to pick up all there B 61 bombs from europe and bring them all back to America!!!

The Atomic Bomb - The Movie details the George event with a brief explanation from a nuclear weaponeer. Good movie to have if you're interested in this subject.

This shot supposedly was one of the worst radiologically in US history. Sedan was 2nd.

It appears that the speed of the film was sped up a little at blast time. Anyways, this was the first time I saw the George shot. Thanks for the upload!
