Rameshchandra Chaudhry (Jishu Sengupta), is in love with Hemnalini (Raima Sen) but is forced to marry Sushilla, daughter of a widow. He initially refuses but changes his mind when the bride's mother pleads with him, and gets married without even seeing his bride. After the marriage, they board a boat which overturns after a storm, and they end up being the only survivors. Unable to get Hemnalini out of his mind, he refuses to be intimate with his bride. But soon Ramesh comes to know that the bride he has got home is not Sushilla but Kamla - the bride of another man named Nalinaksha. How will Kamla react to this news after traditionally accepting Ramesh as her husband? Will Ramesh and Hemnalini get together with the odds stacked against them?

  • Owsome , nothing can be better of real Bengali movie like this .

  • The brilliance of Tagore's story telling brought alive by Rituporno's directrorial excellence! The sheer details that the story goes into the Bengali culture, and the attention that the Director puts to bring these alive simply makes the viwers go back in time and realize the richness of the Bengali culture! Kudos to both. A marriage made in heaven! You just reminded me that as Bengali, we still have so much to offer to the world!

  • I'm not a born Bengali, but I can so relate my own self to this bengali language, culture, food, clothing and everything possible....I'm very greatful to that phase of my life where I understood the language and my effortless learning towards it, I have seen many bengali movies and looking forward to many more .......I'm truly lucky in this case otherwise I would have missed these cinematic masterpieces.....audbhuto!!

  • great touching movie. I watched the Bengali version but didn't feel the necessity to re-watch in Hindi, which I think should not be as impressive as the Bengali version. But great story by Rabindranath Tagore and good direction by Rituparno Ghosh!
