@ProgressiveJoeWest ..exactly, Joe, listen to the Hard 'n Heavy with Marshmallow album, dumb name but a very good album and it is indeed hard and heavy. Should have been a big hit. The Rock and Roll H O F ridiculously leaves them out while admitting many acts that have absolutely no connection to R&R.
@geoabe302 absolutely this song was one of the harder rocking songs for the time period...it is an insult to compare it to the Partridge Family, although at that time I bought everything the Partridge Family put out...this is much better
I LOVE this song, & NO it doesn't sound like the PF ("I Think I Love You" is awesome)! It's very catchy, upbeat & fun, & if that's BG, well be it. One of the best #1's of the 60's was The Archies (Ron Dante) "Sugar Sugar", & it's also one of my favorites. I also like most kinds of music & musicial styles. Gary in PA USA
I didn't say it is bubble gum (not that there is anything wrong with that.) I just said the backing vocals remind me of the ones on some PF songs. I agree with the last sentence of your post.
I suppose I can see how you feel this is bubble gum music, and perhaps it is but it's not bad. My tastes in music are eclectic, I actually like bubble gum music. Not my favorite genre, but I like it none the less. This is far better than anything the PF recorded, but it pales in comparison to PR&R's best material.
Yes, I recall the 70s. I think it is mainly the backing vocals that sound Partridge-y, The Raiders must have used the same session singers that the PF did.
No, no, no. C'mon, This is what commercial radio sounded like around 1970, when this record was out. This is a bit harder than anything the Partridge Family released.

This was one of my very first favorite rock songs as a young kid. The Raiders was the first rock concert I ever saw. I was around 10 years old.
