  • This was filmed on the Monterey Penisula, in central California. The "Episcopal" Church

that the lovers meet in, was made of Wood and burned down a year later (1960). It was just West of The Grove Theatre ( a part of the Naffee Brothers United California Theatres)

on Lighthouse Avenue, in Pacific Grove.

  • : O Another bubble burst. Oh well I love the SF Bay area also.

  • It was on late night TV here in Australia last year and I was truck by the beauty of the photography and poignancy of the story..plus the title song !

  • Those stunning Maine vistas look even more stunning in that candy kane style technicolor.

  • @WimGrundy More like 'trifecta', in my opinion. 'Triumvirate' would refer to three men, the word deriving from the Latin root 'vir' for men (Think 'virile').

That is your etymology lesson for now. Happy Thanksgiving.

  • film superbe. mes16 ans

  • film superbe.

  • Sandra Dee and Troy Donahue and Max Steiner in 1959 - unbeatable tragic triumvirate!

  • It's so sad that all of the main cast members are gone now. Love this movie, it's timeless, they don't make them like this anymore!

  • @ Love Light: The Beach does look familiar, but so much has changed about

    this "Summer Place" since 1959-1960

that the film is now a "historical" document,

in so many ways. The Musical Theme really

brings it back to me, as a fond memory of those

times as a 10 year old kid on the Monterey Bay.

  • @seanthepiper ally live twenty miles from Monterey..... thw wonder the beach looked familiar...thanx for the info:

  • Happy 50th Anniversary to A Summer Place.

(That famous theme is ever so melodic after 50 years).

  • It's a good "movie," not a good "film" if you know what I mean.

However, there are two excellent performances here, one by D. Maguire and the other is a movie-stealing supporting role by Arthur Kennedy--please observe the seen at the end of the film where he is about to be taken to a hospital--to die. Incredible mess of emotions, and finest film acting you'll EVER SEE.

  • I have never seen the film. So, is it a good movie? thank you. sincerely, JAMES.
