She's a goddess, isn't she? I have to counter that she sounds nothing like Ethel Waters... although you're correct that Libby imitated her. Libby, like many great singers of her day, was operatically trained and yet she was totally intimidated by Ethel's untrained and soulful voice. "Moanin' Low" is one of the greatest singles of the entire era in my book. Sigh!
This is the first time I have heard Libby Holman.. thank you. Besides the slightly arch approach to the lyrics, she sounds a great deal like Ethel Waters. But a great deal of performers imitated Waters.
