In this video, Betty demonstrates a fall favorite, Caramel Apples with Vanilla Rum Peanuts. This recipe is an American classic that comes from Kraft Foods. It uses crisp, fresh apples and a coating a traditional caramel. You can coat the apples in plain or flavored peanuts, or omit the peanuts entirely.
Ingredients:
5 medium apples, washed, well dried
1 pkg. (14 oz.) Kraft caramels (about 50)
2 tablespoons water
4 oz. bag of Vanilla Rum-flavored peanuts or plain salted peanuts (optional—I added this to the recipe.)
1. Insert wooden pop sticks (from bag of caramels) into stem end of each apple. Cover large plate with waxed paper; grease with butter. Set aside.
2.Place caramels and water in large saucepan; cook on medium-low heat until caramels are completely melted, stirring constantly.
3.Dip apples into melted caramel until evenly coated, spooning caramel over apples if necessary. Allow excess caramel to drip off. Scrape bottoms of apples, then place on prepared plate. (Note: I rolled my caramel apples in Vanilla Rum-flavored peanuts after scraping the bottoms of the apples.) Place on prepared plate. Refrigerate at least one hour or until ready to serve. Remove from refrigerator and let stand for at room temperature 15 minutes before serving. Store leftover dipped apples in the refrigerator.
This is a great treat that you can enjoy making with your children, and it will create some special fall memories for all or you! Happy dipping!
Hi Betty - I have just come across this video of yours, but could you do a new, from scratch recipe? Thanks - Justin
