My First Singing Recital

This is my very first singing recital that happened in June of 2006 in a small Anglican church. At this time, I have only put in a total of 35 hours worth of voice lessons. Also, I had popped in a couple of Benadryl caps earlier this day of the recital, as I was having watery eyes, runny nose and scratchy throat from the springtime pollens and dust for the last couple of weeks.

During the preparation? Yes. I've gone through the literal translation of the text. During the actual performance? No. My mind was going thirteen different ways to pay attention to the meaning of the text. I was the last one to perform in this student recital, and my nerves were killing me by the time I got up on stage. I just wanted to get over with it.

It is usually after seeing the video of one's performance that one realizes the things that needed improvement.

For 35 hours, you are excellent - obviously a very musical person. Definitely keep it up - you have a wonderful interpretive quality, and a good teacher.

Hi Manxypop, thank you for the nice comments. You are right. I have a wonderful teacher. He helped me with both the technical and interpretative aspects for two weeks before the recital. He, unfortunately, has to move to Toronto to explore his operatic career. I will be continuing my voice lessons next year (2007) with a new teacher with a DMA in Voice from Indiana University. I am so excited!

Hi emyjaymac, thank you for the kind comments. I guess the reason I looked "confident" in here was, in spite of the performance butterflies, I did secretly look forward to being able to perform in front of an audience, and show them what I can do.
