A judge has delayed a decision on whether a veteran Wausau police officer should stand trial on charges of attempting to kill his estranged wife until she can testify against him.
Chueng Lee was charged with trying to kill Chao Lee by deliberately driving his pickup truck into a Shawano County bridge last month while she was in the passenger seat.
A criminal complaint said Lee threatened to kill his wife at her Weston home on Sept. 18 before she got into his pickup for what he said was a drive to a casino.
District Attorney Greg Parker presented a note from Chao Lee's doctor saying she might be able to testify in two to three weeks. The preliminary hearing is scheduled to resume on Oct. 30.
Lee is being held at the county jail on a $500,000 bond.
