Bystanders!!! great band.used to see them at Matildas for the Sunday session.
Ive still got the live at the subi tape. With Lizzote playing.Keyser was a very good song writer.I saw him about 10 years ago at the indi bar doing the mixing for a band called jaluka.
@elbeeone - Hahahaha... I used to think the same thing when I would hear 'Prove It All Night' on the radio. For a split second I thought they were playing a Hurricanes song!
That cassette would be 'Summer Rain'. I've still got a copy kicking around, even listen to it in the car every now and then. :)
@Brootal290 Jeez, thanks heaps for the info. Carl would always have it - he was / is a natural. I remember seeing them at the Maylands and them having brilliant gigs. Got an old cassette of their music I must dig it out. After all these years I hear a John Mellencamp song and I am "hearing" Carl sing it. That is pretty awesome. Thanks again.
@elbeeone - The band went their separate ways, drummer Nick is still in Sydney, bass player James now lives in New York and lead singer, Carl, is back in Perth with his family. He's an old school friend of mine and dragged out the guitar and dusted it off (literally) for my 40th birthday party. He's still got it. :)
Would be great to see him performing again, you never know...
@elbeeone - Hurricanes moved to Sydney in '88 and toughed it out for a number of years playing the pub and RSL scene. Hung out for a record deal from a US-based company, that sadly never came. They did make it on to the B-side of the Angels 'Dogs Are Talking' single along with a couple of other bands. Stupid thing was, you could never play it on the juke box because they recorded it at 33rpm instead of 45, so it sounded like the Chipmunks!
I saw them in the late 80's had to borrow my brother ID to get in though. Have the cassette somewhere. Mother Son was my Bystander fave real pub rock classic!!!!
There was a live album from the early 80's that had Lizzotte on guitar. These band IB, Surface tension, Hurricanes from the late 80's were heaps better than the current crop of Perth original scene.
Best quote: "Tell that poor boy that his Trans Am's just an HQ!"
Shame Ramses is still not around, or that their other songs are not listed here
