A celebration of hip-hop culture in HRM, Hopscotch is full of originality, urban roots and fresh attitudes. This year's event will take the city by storm September 8th to 11th, 2011.

Returning for its second year, Hopscotch showcases international and local artists representing various art forms. Recognized by HRM's event strategy, Hopscotch provides a unique experience for local artists and our diverse community.

"With a focus on urban art and hip-hop culture, Hopscotch is an exciting chance for today's youth to come celebrate and share their passion for all forms of urban culture," said Drew Moore, Chair of Hopscotch. "This event is about engaging youth and our vibrant urban community. We can't wait to celebrate with you in September."

This morning's press conference hosted youth, adults and urban enthusiasts as some of the city's most distinguished urban talent spoke to the various Hopscotch events and features. The event lineup for this year's festival will bring the community together to celebrate all things hip-hop.

On September 8th, Hopscotch will open by hosting a Live Art Jam outside the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. This event will feature a 28-foot boat that will be painted live by contemporary artists from Paris, Toronto and Halifax. The main event will see popular New York based hip-hop artists, The Beatnuts, as the headliner of the all-ages free concert taking place on September 10th. Also on the 10th, the Roast The Coast National Bboy Competition will blow spectators away as Bboys compete for the title of the best dancer of the festival.

Additionally, the 14th year of the DJ Olympics will see emcees, beatboxers and DJ's face-off to earn respect and prizes from September 8-10th. The big finale will be held at Palookas Boxing Club in the heart of downtown Halifax.

Urban-themed and wickedly vibrant, Hopscotch will show how hip-hop is positively contributing to self-expression and youth development in the city.
