@themaskobscure But actually this original concept appeared in a joke book originally in the 1800's

@Kwakmanonthebay Don't be such a tool. Gerard Hoffnung read it in 1958, Pat Cooksey turned it into a song, douchebag.

@superdarby101 Sean Cannon

If Pat Cooksey "wrote" this in 1969 (according to his website) how comes Gerard Hoffnung was performing it in Oxford in 1958? Like you say, do a bit of research . . . . .

Brilliant

@WhiltiernaAria Where do you think they got the myth from? ;o)

I heard this song today for the very first time and I had to stop what I was doing to listen the words... and haven't been able to restart before laughing off my pants!
Funny song, indeed.

@hmart47
The barrel had yet to be unloaded so the bricks where still in it:
Now, clearing all these bricks by hand it was so very slow,
so I hoisted up a barrel and secured the rope below.
But in me haste to do the job I was to blind to see
that a barrelful of building bricks was heavier than me.
So when I untied the rope the barrel fell like lead
and clinging tightly to the rope I started up instead.
