If you don't want to spoil it for yourself, please do not watch this video!

This is the third custom map I made, second released. Was made with the Steam SDK obviously, using Hammer. The map took a few months on and off, a few weeks total maybe. Comments are more then welcome! PS: Please do not watch this video if you intend to play the final version when it's released. You will spoil it.

  • This is pretty cool, but I don't think it's a great level. The puzzle is hard, and some of the things you do are very cool, but I don't think it's explained well. A good puzzle lets the player know what their goal is. Watching you, I never really knew why you were doing certain things.

In short, cool map, but not a great puzzle for the average player.

  • Portal is supposed to take place in a test facility where they put people in unbelievably difficult puzzle chambers to see how they adapt to using the portal gun to accomplish goals.

Thanks for complimenting the level, but in my own defense, I think this level lives up to the authentic idea of the game before the twist in the storyline came out.

When I saw Portal, I did not see a casual game. I was expecting hard core mind boggling puzzles that were hard to complete.

  • Do you know the name of the music i hear in the background?

  • It came with the game. You call it up with actions.

  • i dont think glados herself could solve this

  • @krontor98 Thank you. Your feedback was very descriptive and makes a lot of sense. I will defiantly keep it in mind for my future projects. Very much appreciated. ^_^

  • @BrandonC3 I agree with Crystal1010, enimen1022, and ZapHappy1 about it being to alabret and dificult. I barly knew what you were doing, a portal test should be disigned to make you think how your going to solve it... there is no real way to solve these maps... and portal maps aren't really made with the notion that you have to go through certain steps just to win... instead they are disigned to test people on how they solve it... but your's is just not practicle. • im an expurt at portal and i dont think this is my level. its kind of easy. if u 'think with portals' lol

  • @groxkiller585 Not very hard. It takes some practice though...

  • Wow, good.

  • Now,can someone tell me just how difficult it is to make a map in Hammer?

I'm smart but not a super genius, and some of these tricks look hard to impliment...

  • @ZapHappy1

I agree with this completely; there is absolutely no way anyone would ever figure out everything that is needed to be done and the places needed to be gone to. Impressive design, yes, but it's esoteric in the most insane form.

There's a reason puzzles are intuitive. I could watch this video ten times and would still have trouble trying to figure out how to complete this map.

  • actually, i think portal maps should let you know what the objective is, without telling you how to reach it. you shouldnt be able to walk into a room and think "ok i need to press that button then i get out" it needs to be more like "ok, so there is two buttons, and one box, i have thought this through and understand how i am going about this, but am unsure on what changes will occur if said buttons are pressed."

  • @BrandonC3 Oh, I know that there's no problem with a challenge. I just think a puzzle should have some direction. A player should walk in and think "oh, I need to push that button!" What they have to do to push it can be very challenging, but they should at least know what they have to do.

Basically, I was confused while watching this. I didn't know why you were doing what you were doing. But hey, you're not selling this to anyone. Make maps you like to play.
