I guarantee you this is DEFINITELY Lifeson. And the playing isn't bad, this is what an electric sounds like pre-amp.

@Kumagoro314 Do I really thing? or do I really think? You have nothing to be sorry for because you didn't burst my bubble. I never said guitarists don't make mistakes. In fact I have heard Alex botch the ending on The Spirit of Radio on more than one occasion. The effects are not why it sounds perfect or imperfect. I am talking about the fact that during the main section the picking pattern is incorrect throughout the entire section. That is not the same as making a mistake here or there.

I guarantee this is Lifeson. All one needs to confirm this is to listen to the timing of his chord changes and the intonation.

This is AWFUL and can't be Lifeson....type "RUSH YYZ track Guitar isolated" that is the real one with correct distortion

This is just the style he played with during the mid and late 80s. You can hear Geddy playing a Wal, obviously. It's Alex, using a different picking pattern intentionally.

VERY INTERESTING --- When I was a kid in highschool I learned every Alex Lifeson tune note perfect up until exit stage left -- he was my hero. --- His "classical" intro to THE TREES, for example, introduced me to the sound of nylon string ("classical") guitar. But soon after this I stared to listen to TRUE masters like Paco de Lucia and Segovia and realized that Alex knew little of what these giants had under their fingers and in their minds -- I realized then that my hero had limitations (as a
