TF-51D Mustang Aborted Takeoff Training - Stallion 51 Crazy Horse Checkout Flight Training Checkout Pilot: Alan Anderson Instructor: Lee Lauderback
Flight number (9) in a syllabus of (9) Checkout Training flights: Watch and listen to the training designed to measure the right Stuff. Follow along as Lee Lauderback instructs Alan Anderson through the required procedures to safely control and stop the P-51 Mustang after an aborted takeoff. As you view the short video, pay attention to the precise procedures used to maintain the directional control of the P-51 Mustang, and above all the professionalism and exactness of the command and response between the instructor and student. My goal to maintain runway centerline was accomplished by keeping the Mustang just left of the centerline markings so I could visually see them through the canopy - streaming by just left of the nose. You can always get a good reference peripherally from the wingtips to the runway edges, but that reference queuing is a broader reference to respond to, and the runway centerline markings gives me a quicker queuing to respond to. The P-51 will talk to you! You have to listen, never assume, never get too relaxed or settled in, because the moment you do you will become a passenger and not a pilot. (Alan Anderson)
