MRD: I think there are sades of racism in your comments, and then the other side counter acts by saying he was Loyal to the party that made him and gave him his career...til he saw a Black face on a ticket. I really think you are both at least halfway wrong. But I think he let Bush take the heat when their plans, though eventually working out, became unpopular. Loyalty and manliness mean alot to me and to most Americans. I think Colin cooked his own goose.

its not a black thing ...... Powel is a level headed man of exceptional ability - let down by the Bush Administration - truth is Powel had his chance to become president in the primaries back in 99, he was the favorite to take the republican ticket and would have won both the ticket and the presidency - it sadly was his wife who made the decision for everyone - she didnt want a dead husband - so he stepped aside but supported BUSH ..... Powel made a clear and rational endorsement.

Oh no, I heard him loud and clear. But a black man wanted to see another black man succeed. This had EVERYTHING to do with race.

Spare me. Powell is a lifelong Republican and he spoke with great sincerity in answering this question. He genuinely thought Obama was the better candidate and it had nothing to do with his race.
