I only mention this because you do not seem to want to truly get better, and it seems that you use Schizophrenia as a way to ensure that no real emotional growth occurs. Thus this make you accept you plight and is an escape. True, DSM-IV diagnosed Schizophrenics are NOT as cognizant as you are, and I am not aware of any that can consistently communicate the way you seem to be able to.

  • Again, you are an ass. You don't know me and don't try to pass judgement on me! Oh yeah, and HOW MANY schizophrenics have you met in your REAL life??? I really don't care what your psych books tell you. I suggest you read The Center Cannot Hold and look up Elyn Saks and then go tell her that she is not supposed to be able to hold a conversation. Frankly, I can't help it if you are an ignorant asshole.

  • okay I just watched the full first episode of United States of Tara... That show looks pretty good!! I hope it does well... Really wish I could watch the others dammit! :P

  • I found episodes 2 and 3 on youtube as well. You just have to search for them...try searching "United States of Tara Episode 2" ... plus they are usually divided into parts 1-3 or 1-4. :)

  • We all experience dissociation to a certain degree, I would agree they are quite different. I have problem with dissociation but not so much as to be multiple personality, it is extreme form.

  • yah, I think we all can experience some kind of dissociation, even if it is just daydreaming...but I think anything clinical must be a very different experience. I'm sorry you have issues with dissociation...that sucks. :(

  • When you find out you have personalities, you are like, 'Something is wrong with me!' When I get triggered, I change personalities. I find the personality to deal with the trigger. Personalities hold dysfunctional beliefs, a denial about an issue and expression(s), thoughts and actions that were disallowed in childhood because of said belief system. Cause is mostly repeated abuse through childhood and lack of nurturing in order to develop the healthy ego.

  • would an example of dissociation be like sitting somewhere and "falling asleep" and waking up somewhere else?

  • Dissociative Identity Disorder is a stress disorder. Schizophrenia is a brain disorder. Medications that are prescribed for Schizophenia don't help with dissociative symptoms, even with what are termed auditory or visual hallucinations - when they can hear or they can see/sense their alter personalities. Some people with DID can remember all or part of the ''switching'' process. It's called co-consciousness. There are no medications that are prescribed for DID alone.

  • @djtanner66: you're the one who is sick. It must be so hard being you, without the brains and all.

WHAT THE HELL is wrong with some of you people? Don't watch the video if you love being ignorant so much!

  • @chrispollock: people like you CAUSE mental illness, as well as ignorance in general. Mental illness is real and kills more people than Cancer, so go read a book or something.

ahem... This is a good video, thanks for sharing! :)

  • mental illness does not exist. you can take any emotion or behavior and make it into a "disorder".

  • DID is more common than we acknowledge because childhood abuse and trauma is still very prevelent. IMO kids with dissociation are getting dignosed schizophrenic when they aren't. Also, dissociatives often repress memory and so ppl on the outside don't realize there is abuse happening.

  • you have pretty hair :)
