Tripodder.com takes you inside the story of University of Evansville college students exposing a landlord harassing them on tape. The students posted this on youtube series that we are covering. 14 WFIE has also covered the story. We have invited the landlord for an interview to share his side of the story, but he has declined. • I hope to God that no one I know rents from your ass! I am posting this all over myspace and having Evansville residents pass it on!! Please all evansville residents lets band together because what Bill is doing is wrong and he cannot get away with it!!

  • I am simply showing people the way I was treated as a tenant trying to get some helping fixing a property that I do not own. Hopefully future tenants will see this before signing a lease and see what they are in for. Instead of attacking me, maybe you should offer to help him or encourage him to own up to his mistakes. Make your own video of how you're improving the place. I would love to be proven wrong about Bill. maybe he is a great guy. I just have never seen it.

  • @TisNOTTheLife Slumlords routinely promise they are going to fix things, but then the excuses start as soon as they have your money. These are inexperienced kids and they probably expected this adult man to do what he promised to do. Granted, they probably won't fall for it again, but this slumlord is across from a college and will have plenty of new suckers. Because the landlord has effectively evicted them by not maintaining, (in most states) he would have to pay to find them new housing.

  • i have to be honest here, and i'm not trying to play devil's advocate. but these guys should've known better before they moved into this place. there is no way that all of this was occuring after they moved in. the place had to have been in shambles prior to their moving into the dwelling. if it was that bad, they should have looked elsewhere.

  • lol Wow - FOREVER ago when I went to USI I rented from this jackass, he refused to fix my problems, too. He entered my apartment when I wasn't home and took my belongings to a storage unit. I had to have the Warrick Sheriff's Office threaten to arrest him for burglary before he would return my things! We all went to the storage unit and this moron has "planted" a blow-up doll with my stuff. He is such a joke! This video really brought back memories, thanks!

  • No it's not, you stupid fucking cock horse, you don't even understand the basics of what a contract is...you only see the eviction part of it, and fail to see that the tenants can SUE the SHIT out of this LL for breach of contract, get repairs made, refunds of back rent, and more as a result of this ass breaking the contract. In some cases the judge orders the LL to live in said shitty property for significant amounts of time allowing no repairs to be made, as punishment, which is really funny.

  • Why would you assume my properties have issues? They don't. That's the problem. LLs are not always the "bad guy" you prick. However, you're right about the "safe" portion of your comment. I'll give you that. However, you're wrong about passing costs on to tenants. That's how business works dipshit. Granted, the LL has to abide by the terms of the lease and so do the tenants. If the LL doesn't, the tenants can leave (and break their lease). If the tenants don't, the LL can evict.

  • The responsibility of keeping a safe property lies with the property owner. Tough shit if your crappy properties have issues, you by law are required to fix them and can not, by law, be pass those expenses on to the tenant through increased rent. Issues such as this which cause a health issue are subject severe penalties for the landlord. Including said shity property being condemned by the city health department, and destroyed if it threatens adjacent properties. At the owners expense.

  • I am a Landlord. Granted, their Landlord could have been more professional about this issue. Basically, if they listened to him, he said that they were paying low rent. If they don't like it, he isn't forcing the tenants to live there. If they really want the repairs made, then they can do it. Or, as their Landlord clearly state, he will do it, but their rent will go up to reflect his additional cost. It's business. Period. Guys, again, he isn't forcing you to live there, so leave.

  • It's really not that cheap. Landlords with property in the vicinity of the university usually get triple from students what the house is probably worth. I would bet those kids are paying upwards of $2000/month total for that house. That's alot considering the price of real estate in that region of the country.

  • Misrepresentation would certainly leave the landlord culpable. However, what about all the issues that would have been clearly visible prior to them renting the unit in the first place? Also, I may have misunderstood this part, but it sounds like the rent is dirt cheap. Usually rent is affected by the condition of the unit. So, did they move into a run down unit with cheap rent and then expect everything to be perfect? I side with the students on part of the issue but not everything..

  • I hope for possible future tenants' sakes that both of those happen.. That's just unacceptable.

Oh, and yeah- landofhatred, you are a whore. I hope to god that you're the result of inbreeding, because i don't believe that i have EVER seen such asinine and illegible rantings. I bet your "mommy and daddy" would be proud. I'm sorry- mommy & uncle-daddy.
