A view from the hillside next to the tank museum at Duxford. Video follows the craft and shows the chute deploying extremely close the the ground.
Glad both pilots are safe

  • @francoisXV Come on, take it easy. I am surprised: When we make jokes about German morons it is the Frenchman who cheers the loudest. But when a joke is about French you hear a crying. And for your "historical facts": No way to implicate me into a flame war about losses, kills, air victorys or "who was the best". If you can do me a favor, just keep the video was it is: Not a battlefield for post-war conflicts. Thank you. ;-)

  • @mbkl79 i would not go that far, the French plane will fly again! and the German registered P-51 is a total loss.

looked like a crumpled up empty soda can. how it did not buirst into flames on impact and be so complety destroyed is beyhond me. if i find the link to the pic's i saw i willl post here.

  • Another P-51D almost made a crash landing today, because of the port landing gear stuck. However luckily, a veteran World War 2 Mustang pilot was at the airshow and he told the ATC how to fix the problem in flight, and then in turn they transfered the information to the pilot. All he told him was do some high G turns to yank the gear open and in the lock position.

  • @pencon61 yes because they saw he bailed out successfully and opened his parachute.... I would have clapped too

  • Were those people applauding the crash ?

  • @FiveCentsPlease

oh right, trying to put a date on when i saw it there is hard as im over there so much. wasn't knocking you or anything. would love to see the pictures though

  • @dandantheminiman

It was test flown at the end of Sept. 2011 and flew back home to France. They borrowed an outer wing section from another Skyraider and will still need a replacement. Have photos if you need them.

  • @FiveCentsPlease

are you sure? because im sure i saw it sitting in hanger 2 with a half arse piece of broken bent wing next to it a little while ago. how long did it take to fix? surely would have some structural damage of sorts which would require a serious inspection?

  • @dandantheminiman

The Skyraider was repaired with a replacement outer wing and flew home.

  • @killerbeez95

The outer wing panel was replaced and it's already flown home.

  • What skills these guys have, bailing out like that takes some serious skill. Glad both pilots survived.
