I am sort of a handy person (but no machinist). I started to build a camera crane early 2009 but had to shelf the project having run into a snag. The pivot frame (housing) I was using was rather too heavy for most of my regular tripods. You see, the pivot frame was made of iron (steel) tubing which was heavy. With time the frame would prove too heavy for the tripods I was willing to sacrifice for the project and so I started to scout for a more sturdy tripod.
I recently came across a tripod (Stand) that seemed right for the project and decided to try it. Here is my final result. I think if sprayed "Flat Black", it may pass for a pro-made one.
DIY Camera Crane Jib. Video was shot with Panasonic Lumix GH1 using kit lens (14 -140). It was graded using Red Giant's Magic Bullet. Voice-over was recorded using ZOOM H4N.
Thanks for your compliment.
The tripod, usually referred to as a Stand by the manufacturers, is called "VOCOPRO 88". I think it is a Speaker Stand really. It is quite sturdy and well balanced.

@evanoc12345678 First of all, thanX for the compliment. Secondly, do you mean footage using the crane jib or footage from the GH1?
DIY Camera Crane Test 1&2 on my Youtube Channel were shot using this very crane. The second one (DIY Camera Crane Test 2) was done with the GH1.
