Restaurant Bitmob or Bitcoin, Party of 24 - #LifeOnBitcoin

This was a great evening. The Black Sheep, one of Provo, Utah's finer restaurants, started accepting bitcoin. To reward them, we decided to host a "bitmob," which is a concept introduced to us by Julian Tosh of http://www.coinbus.com out of Nevada, which is a Bitcoin merchant consulting group in Las Vegas, Nevada. A bitmob is when a group of bitcoiners all come together for a party or an event, and patronize a business at the same time.

We had a great time. About half of the people who came with us had never paid a restaurant with bitcoin, so we had a lot of firsts that night. It was incredibly delicious food. So whether you are paying with bitcoin or fiat currency, if you are in Provo, you need to look up The Black Sheep Cafe. There were 24 of us in attendance. Given that we put it together in less than a week, we felt great about the turnout.

The Black Sheep set up bitcoin acceptance using a Bitpay merchant processing system. It worked quite smoothly, and the transactions were fast. The very last transaction had problems - Austin was unaware of that when he recorded this - but it took so long for the transaction to clear - that the system timed out - almost like it froze. Luckily, it was the last transaction of the night. Bitpay has a great system for restaurants and bars, but there is still work to be done for it to be consistently without problem.

One of the most rewarding benefits of doing the Life On Bitcoin documentary film project is meeting so many interesting people. The bitcoin community and the wider crypto-currency community are full of people with a passion for the work they do and for improving the lives of others through the free exchange of ideas, products and services. These are fascinating and intelligent people, who love life, and who are working at every turn to spread the message of bitcoin, because they believe it will bring about more independence and a freer world.
