Im not going to touch lighting as I doubt there would be much control over that other than hope the talent will stay away from sitting in front of windows and too much top down lighting can you say panda eyes? Just remember in TV terms closer is almost always better and the best way to get close is to zoom with your feet.
Shot size. A loose MCU or medium close up is the best framing for this sort of thing. Lets the talent move within the frame without having to adjust the shot all the time. So that is the top of the frame just above their hair and the bottom around the top of their stomach. Watch the headroom, less is better.
Being close means better pictures but more importantly when the mic is on the camera better sound.
Level the tripod. Look for the vertical lines in the viewfinder, in this case all the book shelves and make sure they are square too the bottom of frame.
To repeat what I posted on baen's bar Lois is great but can I offer up some tips to anyone out there thinking of shooting something like this in the future?
If they could get a left-hand side isle chair at the front. That way they can sit with the camera to their right at eye level partly in the isle and not hinder anyones view if they get there early and set up then anyone who comes after can see if they have blocked part of their view and move.
You are watching one of the greatest Sci-Fi writers of all times.
Her Vorkosigan saga is in my opinion the best Sci-Fi ever.
