There's actually that way, the "hiding behind him" way, and the developer intended shooting way. I prefer the last (and mock those who don't use it) simply because mashing is fun!

I just stood on the right side of the platform, he would go down to fire the bullet, and I would be behind him, a couple minutes later it would go into phase 3.
