Apple? No, Thanks! - Deconstructing Foxconn

Foxconn beschäftigt in China über 900.000 Menschen. Das Unternehmen ist der weltgrößte Elektronikhersteller und stellt u.a. iPhones und iPods für Apple her. In den ersten fünf Monaten des Jahres 2010 gab es eine Serie von Selbstmorden bei Foxconn. 11 Menschen starben, eine 17jährige Arbeiterin ist seit ihrem Selbstmordversuch vom Bauch abwärts gelähmt.

Just goes to show that the Chinese aren't really communists. If they were, they would do a better job of looking out for their people. It is an oligarchy run by the rich and influential just like most other countries in the world.

Through out history, it's really all the same story around the world. The rich taking advantage of the poor and keeping the poor poor (through whatever means necessary) so that the rich can become even richer.

Apple isn't the only company they supply. Apple may be the biggest name, but, most phones that operate with droid are manufactured through this company Samsung for example.

I specially like how the numbers add up. The video points out the Foxconn employs 900 000 people. During the first 5 months there was 15 suicides. That makes The yearly suicide rate (15 / 5 * 12) / 9 = 4 people per 100 000. This for example is 3 times lower than average suicide rates in USA. And actually lower than for example US office worker suicide rates, when you want to narrow it down by a sector.
