Before invading Poland, Germany signed the Nazi-Soviet Nonaggression Pact, securing the eastern border of Germany. Limited trade, mostly on the part of the Russians, was part of the agreement. But everyone involved knew that it was a measure on both sides to buy time. Ideologically, both nations despised the other. Hitler had devoted much of Mein Kampf to his believe in the menace of Communism. Nazism was against everything Communism stood for.

Part of the operational planning of the German high command involved a possible invasion of the Soviet Union. On July 21, a month after the fall of France, Hitler summoned Generalfeldmarshal Walther von Brauchitsch and instructed him to plan for an invasion of the Soviet Union

  • @soya28 I agree that Stalin was more cowardly than Hitler but Hitler was extremely cowardly too. He urged people to fight to the last but took the softest option available when it came to him, he never once visited a bombed city and spent his time as far away from the bombing as possible, he refused to visit the front once things got dangerous, in the USSR in 1943 on a visit he cleared off double quick when Soviet tanks were reported 30km away. Not exactly the behaviour of a hero.

  • @VictorLepanto Stalin may have been involved in war crimes but that does not mean he was involved in combat. Often those who were involved in this type of crime were not in combat at all - compare crimes committed by both the Nazis and Soviets.

  • Well, who knows! There was so much hunger in Europe at the end of the war, woman offered sex for even a potato.

Worked with US WW2 vets, told me there were plenty of German woman sleeping around the camps, they would screw as little as a potato or piece of meat.

This German woman may got more what she bargained for.

  • "One night, seeking shelter for herself and her baby, Anna Seddig encountered a group of Red Army soldiers."

I just knew another atrocity story was lying ahead.

  • So you get liberated by your own country, when you're in a prison camp, only to be accused of betraying your motherland with those extremely harsh sentences.

    Unbelievable, those russians.

  • 07:33 this kind of madness never fails to amaze me.

  • Its a raw deal being a Russian...
